When I was in my darkest days I didn’t have my altar and I didn’t want to do anything like I describe above.

And first upon moving to portugal I didn’t have an altar table. After about a month I got one. And setup a new altar.

Being unspiritual for months showed me that I did want all of that back in my life. My own ritual. My own time to be with all the emotions, many of which I didn’t want to feel.

Now I’m back with my devotion, I’m making it a habit to sit down in front of my altar and do my ritual. Even when I don’t feel like it. Can I find comfort in the uncomfortable? Can I do it even when I don’t want to?

The answer is always yes, and still sometimes it doesn’t happen. That’s ok. I can always go back to do it tomorrow.

More often than not, I tell myself, the goal is always more often than not.

In truth I am not fully vibing with being in Portugal. There’s grief inside me where my hopes lay. I expected it to feel like home and it doesn’t. You know what they say about expectations…

So we’ve decided to leave in a few months. Back towards Asia. Bali for a bit to fill our cup of community and then perhaps onwards to Australia.

Yes, I’m incredibly privileged to be able to be in a new country and then move somewhere new again because I don’t like it as much as I wanted to. There’s no denying my privilege. I thank my privilege.

Onwards. Although right now it feels like I’ve gone backwards in my mental health. I’m seeking support, just like I did many years ago in the midst of my anxiety. It helps to have help.

Here’s to having courage to move through the difficult even when it feels like you can’t.
